I don't think my husband would be happy with plastic filament being on the menu though he's usually thankful if I cook at all.

I mostly use it for fries, onion rings, and breaded stuff like chicken or fish.  I like it a lot.  It was only $40, so I figured I'd try it.  Very happy with it.

Thanks!  There are only two of us so I can get by with a small one.  I may revisit the idea of purchasing one.

Mine is a 5 quart. I don't think that I'd get one any smaller in hindsight. You could probably get by with 3 quarts, but it would be limiting.

So, here’s where Dad and I are with our Archtop restoration: 


So, yes, we’re stripping away the original sunburst finish and even filling in some of the cracks (with padouk, oddly enough.) He’s thinking of making it a more natural finish (with some reddish-brown slivers where the cracks used to be.) Parts of the top have been wetted with a sponge to approximate the final finish. But I’m not sure that the kintsugi approach is what would look best. I’m currently thinking of an approach similar to the one I used with the ukulele, with one blood color for the top and the other for the bottom. So for reference, here’s one with the Healele on top to approximate the color I want:



And there’s also a small part of me that wants to somehow make a stain the color of Eigengrau, but I doubt there’s much in the way of stains with a hex value of 16161d.

So, I’m going to ask: better blonde or better blood?

Opening and playing with some new kitchen toys. I've got a new rice cooker and a vacuum sealer, but I don't have time for those today. First up, a Farberware mandoline slicer from Walmart. I was going to get the Oxo handheld one, but I think this one will work better. It's got a leg so that I don't have to hold the end up manually.
