He gave a couple possibilities, and the only thing I could end up committing to my long-term memory were the words "upper bronchial." He's ordered a methacholine challenge test, and had me do a chest x-ray. He said they would give me the results within 24-48 hours of the x-ray (more like 18-42 hours at this point).

And the odd thing about his speech, he has a full-on Asian name (first and last name), and while I was expecting an accent, I found something stranger. His accent was more Midwestern (most similar to Minnesotan, oddly enough), but, apart from that unremarkable point, there's a twist that's kind of hard to explain, so I'll start with an example: famed cinematographer Christopher Doyle is from Australia, but has, for most of his career, been based out of China. He still speaks with an Australian accent, but sometimes, his cadences seem to lapse into a more Chinese mode:

Well, it's strange, but, despite the Midwestern accent, his cadences were more Japanese (I should note that, while I'm not sure, one of his names is Korean and the other is Vietnamese) . I found myself thinking of Kyoami, Kurosawa's equivalent from Ran and Hoichi, the blind and eventually earless singer from Kwaidan, but since Dad has seen neither and I somehow couldn't find a good clip of either one on YouTube, I eventually settled on (of all people) Gedde Wantanabe. Not in the notorious accent (which is fake), but the cadences. Eventually, however, I found a clip of the sort of things Hoichi sang and I think it's closer to that:

His parents probably made it to the mid west, where he garnered an education. I had some medical issues recently and had to see someone other than my "chosen" physician. I ended up with a gal who of obviously middle eastern descent. All I care about is quality medical attention, which is what I received. She is also apparently young enough to be one of my children. I guess that that is what happens when one gets old.

Thinking about a tragedy that happened ten years ago today that still makes my heart ache. My middle daughter's best friend was killed by her husband who then killed himself. This occurred in the kitchen while their three year old ate cereal and watched cartoons in the family room. The other four kids were at school. It was a yours, mine, and ours family. Just a couple weeks before they had lovely family photos taken...just makes me sad.

Becoming more conflicted. I was thinking of getting the Glenlivet 12 year or Founder's Reserve, because I'm new to Scotch, and am looking to experience a classic Scotch flavor profile. Unfortunately, I've just discovered the Glenlivet Carribean Rum Cask finish Carribean Reserve, and for a few dollars more, I get a flavor profile featuring prominent sweet notes of tropical fruit. Given my preferences as a bourbon drinker, that sounds more up my alley. Given that I'll likely follow up the Glenlivet with the Balvenie Double Wood after that, I think I'll get my classic Scotch taste, just a little further along. (Presuming I don't swap the Glenmorangie Lasanta in place of the Balvenie. The Glenmorangie is another fruity Scotch.)

Using iron? I'd like to see pics. We have a hobby/art thread around here somewhere, right?

It hasn’t been decided yet. The last one was made out of a hardback edition of ‘Moby Dick’. It was a gift for a friend who showed it around and now one of HER friends wants to commission a lamp. I’m doing sketches of various designs so she can pick one.

So, I finally got the results of the chest x-ray I had yesterday. The response, verbatim, “couple small areas of scarring, otherwise was normal.” Well, it looks like we’re getting somewhere.

Also, on a lighter note, about a week ago, I ordered some room spray based on D&G’s Light Blue (for Alison, since there doesn’t seem to be much difference between room sprays and linen sprays and I really looked), and it finally came today. It did not disappoint. And for $7 for 2 oz (with $5 shipping) it’s practically a steal (especially since the actual thing costs $82 for a 50mL bottle at Ulta).
