Reading coffee maker reviews.  My Mr. Coffee died last week, and I was going to replace it with the same thing, but my hunch is the water temperature it produces is not ideal.

Best temp for brewing coffee is right around 200F. That releases the maximum amount of flavor-bearing oils, while any hotter also releases the alkaloids, which make it bitter.

My Chefman pot will do 200F, but by the end of a 10-minute pour-over, I suspect the temp is a good bit lower. My SPT pot will do 208F, but the latch is broken so I haven't been using it. I narrowed my choice down to a Cuisinart 14 cup machine and a Braun 12 cup BrewSense. I prefer the Cuisinart, and I've got a coupon for 20% off at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, but they only have the Cuisinart in black stainless steel and it's $10 more than the Braun.

I don't know how uniform their line is - but I bought a stainless cuisanart awhile back. I drink about 3 pots a day - and it's still chugging along. That was the most important thing for me - I was so tired of coffee pots breaking that I'd said fuck it to moving parts and went to a press for a long time. I think they make good coffee...but I'll drink mud...so. It may run a little hot.

Relaxing with a cup of salted caramel flavored hot tea. The next best thing to sliced bread it is not. But I like that it has real tea in it. All this herbal stuff is making me weak.

Just got back from a very pleasant swim at the beach here in Hervey Bay.
My Razer argb controller which has been out of stock for weeks is finally on its way.
No more stupid rainbows! Yay.

It looks like we’re finally making some progress on the archtop project:



The back and sides have been sanded down to a natural finish, and it looks like we’re getting a new bridge pin Jack tomorrow. We’re probably going to stain the back and sides tomorrow.

And one more of the headstock before the old logo got sandblasted off (because it’s old and hard to read and we found a newer waterslide of the exact same logo that isn’t decayed to shit.)

Note that it looks the same as the old one except it’s not decayed to shit and actually legible.

Also, we’ve decided to name it Django (mostly because the bracing in it reminded one of Dad’s luthier friends of an old Gypsy Jazz guitar more than any archtop he knew) and we’ve decided to have the name printed onto the headstock, more or less like this in Algerian font, except arranged vertically below the new decal.
