RE: What's everyone up to right now?
Decided to start up a collection of British predecimal coins after my experience with sixpences for the Ki’eHe’aLele. So, I bought some coins in bulk (thrupenny bit, shilling, ha’penny) from another company (English Coin Company). And after over two weeks, they finally came. One of the things I’m most interested in doing is getting one of each predecimal coin from the last year they were minted. So, now, for that little subset, I have a 1967 ha’penny, thrupenny bit, and sixpence, and a 1966 English shilling (while most of the set wound up being Scottish, none of the Scottish coins were from 1966.) I also found another shop on Etsy that’s closer to me to get the remaining six coins: 1965 Crown; 1967 Half-Crown, Florin, and penny; 1966 Scottish Shilling; and 1954 Farthing (because they don’t have a 1956.)

Four down, six to go:

I may get a farthing with the right date, and I may even add a token silver three pence eventually, but the last year of that is stupefyingly rare and even in the best of times, it was just a sad little coin that was already being phased out in favour of a larger and more intriguing-looking (the seaweed-looking thrift plant on the obverse of the George VI edition aside) brass version.

And, yes, I am well aware that there were still several minted in 1970, but they don’t count since they weren’t circulating coins.

Mow before the sun rises or after it sets. Great
