The state of the Richardsnary, with me finally getting around to “designing” the Truss Rod cover. And by design, I mean I cut out a triangle out of printer paper with the name Richardsnary traced from a Dafont sample of Rocket Script font on my phone.



All that’s left to get is the paint for the finish (Sherwin Williams Osage Orange and Real Red) and the tuning pegs.

That said, after consulting the original, I think I might have to move the pickup down about 0.2”.

And, yes, I’m being a bit obsessive about that placement because it turns out that it’s one of the only factors in a guitar’s design that actually makes a difference in the sound (Jim Lill’s videos seem to have proven by this point that an electric guitar’s tone is almost exclusively down to the pickups and their placement/height and volume pot value, maybe the tone pot and cap if you actually use them and I tend to not do so) and my entire reason for making it is so I can have something that sounds just like a Ric 12-string without paying far out the ass for it (because the real deal costs $4k new and somehow, Rickenbacker has still changed out most everything that matters tone-wise, so you’d probably need to modify it to get it right anyway.)

Just for the record, there’s a YouTube channel I’m subscribed to called Radio Dead Air that does a news show called What the Fuck is Wrong With You? about ridiculous news stories and people randomly getting arrested while naked is one of the most common running themes in the stories. Of course, the last one they covered was in February and it was about a female lawyer who decided to disrobe at a bar after she was denied service, but the same month also had another story where a naked man pulled a fire alarm in Tampa.
