What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
Speaking of spending money. I spent $17 on my 3-cup Hamilton Beach veggie chopper and I notice this morning that Best Buy has a similar unit made by Bella for $13. I think the Hamilton Beach unit is more compact and likely easier to use, so I'm going to stick with that. I hate throwing away money, though.

On the birthday front, I haven't bought any gifts yet besides some Burt's Bees gift packs of hand lotion, but I had been debating buying one sister a dog water fountain because it's a good unit and it's $7 off during Prime Days. The problem was that her birthday is over 30 days away, so she wouldn't be able to return it. I satisficed. I'll just give it to her a month early so that I save the $7 and she can return it if she wants.

Nuts. I had my ILS worker run me on some quick errands, including Lund's for the last day of a sale on shredded chicken. In my preoccupation with returning something and grabbing a pizza, I forgot all about the chicken.

Marveling at the moisture falling from the sky and the fact that it's not supposed to be over 100 degrees today thanks to the cloud cover.

Having a mango-flavored Pepsi before I head off to Walmart for some grocery shopping.

How's the grid been holding up?

I hate to jinx anything, but so far, so good.

Though Ercot is whining and wants people to not use electricity during the hottest part of the day.

It only feels like 92 right now thanks to cloud cover most of the day.  And we got about a tablespoon of rain.  Considering donning a sweater.

Yeah, it's been downright chilly, comparatively speaking.  I decided not to try and tough it out on my car's AC and took it in for the new, and expensive, compressor.  It had stopped cooling entirely unless the temp was below about 95, so that will be rare between now and, say, October.  I was drenched in sweat driving home yesterday afternoon.  Oh well, add that onto the pile of repairs, so I'll keep it for a couple of years now and amortize that cost rather than get a new ride.

Relaxing with a chelada. This is from the corner liquor store, a Modelo "Especial." I was looking for the pineapple one but they were out. I prefer the Clamato ones by Budweiser, but I have to go to Roseville for those.

RE: What's everyone up to right now?
I woke up at 4 am and couldn't get back to sleep. So I went online, and as I've done several times over the past couple of days, spent some time seeing if there was a better option than sticking with the power supply that I ordered. At 1000 watts, it's $40 too much and 150 watts more than I need. But I had gotten a promotional credit for $12.50 toward a purchase that I had used on it, and I was just sure if I canceled that order then I would lose the credit and then the difference is only $25. But I also considered getting a cheaper power supply, just to tide me over until the next-gen power supplies come out in the next 6-12 months. I found one that would bridge the gap well for $95, so I canceled the first order. But when I went to order the $95 one, I found the credit for $12.50 had been returned to my account. So, fuck that, I went ahead and ordered the 850-watt version of the one I originally ordered. At $190 without the discount, it's more expensive, but it's a much higher tier product and one that I wouldn't hesitate to put in an expensive computer build. With the discount it was only $177.50. And when the next gen of power supplies come out, sure, I'll lose a little money, but I'll be ready. And if my calculations are right, odds are I probably won't need to upgrade to a next-gen power supply for several years.

I feel so much better now than I did when I woke up at 4 am.

Back to shopping for birthday gifts. I'd love to just go ahead and order things, but given the 30-day limit on returns, I have to wait.
