I tried to read that series, but I never could get into it. I suppose it had something to do with it being more historical than fictional.
The first one is interesting, but they soon become trite: Ayla is the Wonder Woman of prehistory, not only discovering how to create fire by striking rocks together, but is the first to ride a horse, tame a saber tooth tiger, dazzles her Neanderthal family by learning to count passed the number 10, has perfect recall for facts and language, and is, like, totally the hottest Homo sapiens, like, EVER.
Then in book two she meets Jondolar who is the hottest male Homo sapiens, like, EVER, who is the most sensitive man, like, EVER, and is also the world's best lover with the world's most giant dick and he and Ayla fall in lurv.... puke.
Book three becomes a torrid romance novel in full force, and why I just couldn't soldier through the rest of the series.
I lament that those books have an immensely interesting concept, but they totally go off the rails and that makes me sad.
The movie sucks, too. I would very much be interesting in seeing how a modern director would remake it, though.

The narrator change is part of the allure!
Also *Spoiler-cheat* you can just check the names of the chapters and see that some characters don't get killed, at least, until then... so you can rest assured that while you read the first chapters, the character doesn't die.
I've watched the show through Season 3, so I know a lot about who dies and what happens to the characters that live, I just have never been able to stick it out with the books. I keep meaning to pick them up again but I keep finding other things to read that I'm more interested in.

Waiting for my staff meeting to start (the first one I'm running) and sucking down gallons of tea in the meantime so I don't sound like a frog losing its voice.
Also, anxious to hear back from the bank about the offer I put in on the condo I want to buy. They really have no sense of urgency and it's driving me crazy.
