I tried to read that series, but I never could get into it. I suppose it had something to do with it being more historical than fictional.

The first one is interesting, but they soon become trite: Ayla is the Wonder Woman of prehistory, not only discovering how to create fire by striking rocks together, but is the first to ride a horse, tame a saber tooth tiger, dazzles her Neanderthal family by learning to count passed the number 10, has perfect recall for facts and language, and is, like, totally the hottest Homo sapiens, like, EVER.

Then in book two she meets Jondolar who is the hottest male Homo sapiens, like, EVER, who is the most sensitive man, like, EVER, and is also the world's best lover with the world's most giant dick and he and Ayla fall in lurv.... puke.

Book three becomes a torrid romance novel in full force, and why I just couldn't soldier through the rest of the series.

I lament that those books have an immensely interesting concept, but they totally go off the rails and that makes me sad.

The movie sucks, too. I would very much be interesting in seeing how a modern director would remake it, though.

Terrible person, indeed!
The narrator change is part of the allure!

Also *Spoiler-cheat* you can just check the names of the chapters and see that some characters don't get killed, at least, until then... so you can rest assured that while you read the first chapters, the character doesn't die.

I've watched the show through Season 3, so I know a lot about who dies and what happens to the characters that live, I just have never been able to stick it out with the books. I keep meaning to pick them up again but I keep finding other things to read that I'm more interested in. Undecided

Waiting for my staff meeting to start (the first one I'm running) and sucking down gallons of tea in the meantime so I don't sound like a frog losing its voice.

Also, anxious to hear back from the bank about the offer I put in on the condo I want to buy. They really have no sense of urgency and it's driving me crazy. Sad

Bathing my daughters.

Hoping they sleep tonight rather than cough their lungs up like last night.

Poor darlings.

Took Advil, decongestant, and the rest of the weak-ass muscle relaxers my dentist prescribed. Now at least I am not suffering continuously.

Had a salad. Bagged salad with shredded cheddar, and jalapeno ranch dressing. Extremely spartan salad, but mighty good. Two dinner rolls as well. Hooray for veggies!

Saw the movie Tim's Vermeer just now. Engaging and oddly emotional.

Just got back from having an expensive steak at an upscale restaurant. I have a lot better for less than half the price.

Waiting for Esquilax to wake up, because apparently he spent three hours fretting over his awesome manuscript Tongue
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Drinking coffee and getting geared up to board a ship in a while. Normally I hate these middle-of-the-night boardings, but I like the Captain of this ship. He looks a bit like Anthony Quinn in "Zorba the Greek" and he gives me free cigarettes.

The vessel is a monster, even for a tanker: 900 ft. in length and a deadweight of 150,103 MT -- a big girl! Her draft is damn near at the river's limit. I'm hoping against hope that the pilot doesn't ground her going to berth.
