Getting a late start on my morning exercise. I haven't made chili in forever, so I loaded up the slow cooker. But first I needed a few additional ingredients. Besides being the Saturday bus schedule, the buses are coping with six inches of fresh snow, so it took longer than I had anticipated. I'm trying Cincinnati-style chili this time, though as is often the case with things that I cook, it's a bit of a Frankenstein. And I strongly suspect that I got it too spicy, but I didn't stop anywhere along the path to that result. Fresh and pickled jalapenos, a helping of smoky paprika, and an extra large spoonful of 40K cayenne pepper is probably about double what it needed. My usual choice for smoky heat in chili is a chopped up can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, but they didn't have any at Aldi's, so I improvised.
