What?! They are not asking for ten different forms of identification?

In Illinois, it turns out that all they need for a license renewal is the driver’s license you want to renew. I don’t know if this is a new thing or not, but it looks like they compensated by making it harder in other ways. Namely, by requiring an appointment, but making it virtually impossible to get one.

When I renewed my DL 4 years ago, I had to drive 40 miles one way to get an appointment before my license expired. I had to take multiple pieces of info to get the "REAL" ID. I now have a cute little golden bear on my license.

The closest one with any appointments open is 50 miles away. There are 23 others closer to me, but they’re all booked until question mark.

I finally got my license renewed. I learned that the offices refreshed new options every morning via a post on Reddit. Inspired my my memories of watching Defunctland's video on FastPass and the bizarrely convoluted method for getting the most out of their visits with the Genie app, I hatched a plan: I would wake up at 7 AM (via an alarm on my phone), try to get on the Website and find an appointment. So, after about 2 1/2 hours of sleep, I awoke to the sounds of "Search and Destroy" playing on my iPhone. Or at least I would have done so if I had programmed the alarm correctly. But the buzzing sound was loud enough to rouse me from my sleep. Fortunately, the nearest DMV wound up having some openings. Naturally, I picked one in the mid-to-late afternoon. It refused my first attempt, and I picked a slightly earlier time. And, I tried to register that earlier time, but something with the Captcha kept failing. By the time it worked, it changed the time to 8:20 AM, like Weird Barbie handing me a Birkenstock and telling me "You have to want to go there at the ass crack of dawn." So, I told my Dad about it, and we drove there. I made a quick omlette, toasted a bagel, and took some Modafinil. Once there, it went without a hitch.

Well, there was one hitch: the first picture I took was apparently crap, with eyes bugged out because I was supposed to look at a dark blue dot on a black machine with my glasses off. Eventually, it worked. Now I have my license renewed and I won't have to deal with this horseshit again for another four years.
