Grumbling a bit that even while being on vacation I still wake up at the same ungodly hour every damn day. I don't even know why I bother to set an alarm.

Tornado scare last night, up from 2:15 to 3:30. Now off to the market.

Prepping the house for a dinner party Monday night.

Just got back from a month in Italy, so the old body is still on
"Italy time". Jet lag sucks big time, as one ages.

So, the "prepping" is going really slowly.

Planning a dinner party so soon after a big trip was quite stupid.

Spent the morning with grandson and his other grandmother. She made a huge breakfast and we enjoyed the visit. Then back to daughter's and hung out with her and granddaughter and an old family friend. Plan to leave in the morning as soon as I get up, showered and the car packed. Will stop in Mississippi tomorrow night then home early afternoon on Sunday. During all of this I have worked enough to cancel out some of my PTO usage and keep things to where I won't be swamped when I get back...glad Monday is a holiday though.

Enjoying our last meal out before heading out in the morning. Everything is packed, staged and ready to go in the car. Nothing left to do but drive.

We celebrate my mom's 79th birthday down at the local eater, with about 20 of her friends in attendance. It was a great party and we're looking forward to next year.

On the road to Mazatlan, our first stop. There's a new toll road that allows us to bypass what is otherwise the wostt part of the drive (especially for the dogs) - through the jungle and mountains of Nayarit.

Right before we pulled out of our driveway I realized that there was a bass guitar size hole in the cargo compartment so I grabbed my Fender Jazz bass, it needs some attention from a luthier and I haven't found one I like here yet.

Flattening, cutting up, and vacuum sealing 4 pounds of chicken breasts. I was going to do this during the game so that I could use a batch in stir-fry tonight, but I found sitting on my ass watching baseball more appealing. I'll make the first batch of stir-fry / lo mein tomorrow. I've still got to make four days' worth of overnight oats before dinner. I'm going to take a break before worrying about washing the cutting boards.

Waking up, too early as usual, but in my own house and currently saving Quinn from the mean ole thunder.

I was going to stop yesterday midway home but the traffic was relatively light most of the time and other than a driving through a pretty substantial rainstorm when I entered Alabama, I had perfect weather, wasn't tired and just came on home.

Glad I made the trip. 2,600+ miles when finally done but was worth it.

Grandson will be 13 this summer. He gave me a hug told me he loved me and "see you again in ten years" with a little smirk and a glint in his eyes. Don't know where he got smartassery from...seems it must be genetic.

Hit the road before 6, thermometer hit 35C at by 10am.

Hit a military checkpoint, we pretended to not understand Spanish, waved through. I love it when a plan comes together. (If they can't communicate with you they can't shake you down, these stops used to be operated by famously corrupt civil authorities).
