I asked around to the young families in my complex and when they told me they don't trick or treat I didn't decorate or buy candy. Looks like we both live in areas that are Halloween duds. . Too bad. I love Halloween.

I don't think there are very many kids in my complex - it doesn't really have kid amenities, though there is a very nice park next door.

I did figure that the kids from the neighboring apartments might stop by.

Maybe the "Free Candy" van scared 'em off?

My local university has been celebrating H'ween this week at its varsity sporting events, including tonight at women's soccer. Wish I had gotten my act topgether and gone. And even dressed up for the first time since '91 or so.

Following a news story.

A SWAT team has a building a couple of blocks from my apartment in lockdown looking for a gunman. Someone I know is *inside* the building.

News is sketchy but it appears that the gunman is *not* in the building. Whew.

So as the details came together, it turns out this is one fucked up individual.

Neighbor A sues neighbor B for being in violation of their mutual homeowner's association rules (to wit - renting out part of his home). It goes to court. B loses, fails to comply. Round 2: B is supposed to appear this morning to answer a contempt of court charge. Mr. and Mrs. A are driving to the courthouse at 8:30 this morning, and Mr. B pulls up next to their car and opens fire on A's vehicle, hitting Mrs. A in the head.

The local police quickly determine a couple of locations that Mr. B is likely to go to and lock them down, including an office building a couple of blocks from my apartment (which is where my therapist does business, we were exchanging information via text throughout the ordeal - as far as she knew, the gunman was in the building. What a mindfuck.).

Meanwhile, Mr. B escapes the area, and later exchanges gunfire with the police, where a third party ends up getting shot (initial reports suggest he was shot by the police). Mr. B disappears into a wooded area, leaving his vehicle for police to find shortly after. Twenty minutes later, 2 1/2 hours into the ordeal, Mr. B is found in a ravine, dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Mrs. A is in the hospital, last I heard in critical condition - she's probably going to lose an eye - though she's probably lucky to be alive.

All of this over a some whack job's refusal to respect his homeowner's association rules, thumbing his nose at the judge, and refusing to take responsibility for his actions.

At least the dickhead had the decency to off himself before anyone else got hurt or killed.

I like their burritos quite a bit. Very messy at the end, though.
