Finally moving house!
We put our house on the market a week before the first UK covid lockdown (not the smartest move... no one allowed to visit!)
Sacked the estate agent (equivialant to a US realtor?) for being useless - never answered the phone or emails
Sold just before Christmas, almost sorted with all the legal crap then the buyers pulled out
Sold again about a month later, after a lot of delays finally got a date for moving at the end of the month, now I just need to sort out about 15 years worth of junk!

Feeling pretty content with my world. The day started with breakfast with my older daughter and multiple texts from a young man who nearly lived at my house when he was a kid, then a visit from my son, and a call from my younger daughter who I seldom hear from...and Mother's Day wishes from her son. Received a couple gift cards and some cash and a head's up that a package will be arriving soon.
A good day.

My dog went to the vet ER today with a possible bowel blockage. We are waiting until tomorrow for tests (the X-rays were inconclusive). Surgery is a real possibility.

(This post was last modified: May 11, 2021 at 2:03 am by Rev. Rye.)
A quite a bit happened, especially with regards to my DIY gear projects:
- Almost everything I had ordered for the tenor uke managed to come today, including the neck (and its attendant hardware), the bridge, the box corners, the pickup, the strings, and the latches managed to arrive at once (except that, for some reason, one of the packages was in the back of the mail truck and if Dad hadn't asked about it, it'd probably arrived a day late. And it turns out all that needed to be done to remove the pennies from the corners was a few minutes under Dad's heat pad. Everything's there but the sixpence and the strap buttons.
- After repairing the big crack in the neck block under the tailpiece of El Presidente, I finally managed to take advantage of the opportunity and change the strings. Martin Retros, Medium. They sound good, but they still need to stabilise, tuning-wise.
- And now that I'm finally taking the plunge and adding a strap button to El Presidente, this has raised a question of what that strap should be. And it looks like we have yet another DIY project to take on, and it should be infinitely simpler. A simple vintage-style guitar strap:
Made from two (or three, if you count the two main parts of the strap) pieces of black leather I found on Etsy (specifically European Leather Works; the leather strap is 3/4" wide, but about 4mm thick, and a bit shy of 6 feet long, and the shoulder pad is thinner and made of a 10x18" square that should give me five decent-sized pads). And, apart from the little belt buckle and the little stud that keeps it where it is, that's it. It's the same version we tried to buy for the archtop, but it turned out to be too short for my purposes, and because I'm in control of the maximum length this time, it won't be.

Hopefully you bought a bigger place.
If I tried moving all our stuff onto a smaller place - gravitational forces would cause everything to collapse into itself - forming a black hole - destroying the solar system and all life in it.

Listening to gawdawful hold music while on the phone with technical support. This is why people get grumpy when they are forced to call into technical support...and it's why people give up after a while.
This stuff makes Muzak sound like high art.
