Spent the morning wrestling with secure boot issues.  I finally managed to get it enabled with up-to-date certificates.

I generally just secure my boots with the straps and buckles.

Trying the Aldi sparkling water that I bought. It's not as good as the Polar brand that I bought at Target. Cheaper, but not as good.

Looking at various kinds of pasta. I finally figured out the relationship between the words 'durum' and 'semolina' regarding pasta. I'll probably forget again. And I found a better linguine.

Ran some errands. Aldi had four bags of fettuccine that I scarfed up because they seldom have the bronze-cut fettuccine in stock. Picked up some Isola linguine to try.

Decided to try and create a representation what I think might be the best possible electric guitar (i.e., one with both a maximum of potential tones on tap and a minimum of design problems) with an online guitar designer. This is the closest thing I’ve been able to make an ideal:



Compromises I had to make for the sake of this image:

• Bridge pickup would actually be a Tele bridge pickup.
  
• Vibrato bridge would be Gotoh 510.
  
• Jack would be on the side. 
  
• Volume knob would be further from strings.
  
• Two Additional switches: one for High Pass caps, one to switch phase of the middle Strat pickup.
  
• I couldn’t get it to do a “left-handed but with right-handed stringing” look like I wanted.
  
• Personally, my aesthetics were leaning towards mostly dark red with gold hardware. If you think closely about my user name and do some looking up paperback covers, you can probably guess why.
  

Mods that wouldn’t show up on the photo:

• 5-way Switch would be a FreeWay with multiple other pickup combos on tap. (Coil splitting, series wiring for the single coils)
  
• Tone control would be a 12-way switch with multiple caps in lieu of a traditional tone control.
  
• Locking tuners
  
• Maybe stainless steel frets?
  

Design issues fixed:

• Headstock has straight string pull for maximum tuning stability.
  
• Mods in “compromises” section (volume knob, Jack, and Gotoh system) seem to fix most of the problems in Strat body design; and the Strat design was chosen specifically because it has the fewest drawbacks of the common designs.
  
• Neck humbucker, Strat middle, and Tele bridge pickups cover the three biggest bases for electric guitar tones (thank you Danny Kortchmar).
  
• Tone control with multiple caps creates multiple interesting voices (including cocked wah tones) for each pickup design instead of the traditional low-pass filter that most guitarists don’t even bother with because it sounds dead.
  

Naturally, I’m nowhere near able to make this guitar.

Finished the cleanup at the ramp site today. I was happy to do it, and it tuned out grand, but I will never take on a project of that size again.
