What's everyone up to right now?

Cost of living in California is ridiculous, or so I'm told.  But at this moment it is 68 F and 65% humidity at noon, pretty typical for coastal areas near SF.

I read this online about the city where I live, Berkeley:
Quote:In a year, there are an average of 2.9 days with highs of 90.0 °F (32.2 °C) or higher, and an average of 0.8 days with lows of 32 °F (0 °C) or lower. The highest recorded temperature was 107 °F (42 °C) on June 15, 2000, and the lowest recorded temperature was 24 °F (−4 °C) on December 22, 1990.

In Berkeley, the month with the highest daily high temperature at 75 F is September.  The month with the lowest average daily high at 58 F is January.  The daily low temperature here ranges between 42 F in January to 54 F in August.  That is only 33 degrees difference between the average daily low in winter and the average daily high in summer.  If you like being active outdoors, this is the place to live.  Rain is pretty rare here but we only really suffer when the snow pack in the Sierras is low as it is this year.  Those of us who garden could use more rain around here.

So we had to ban Nora to get her to show up again? That's so... paradoxical.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Lucky bastard. From March to early May here it is gorgeous. From May to October it is hot and humid as hell. From October to March it is cold as shit.

But that music scene, tho.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I was here lurking yesterday. I had been chatting to someone from here on FB and thought I'd check in. Then this morning I had an email saying I had a PM, which said I was banned, so I couldn't not post, really.  Big Grin

At least you HAVE air conditioning to retreat to!  My apartment is now in the mid-70's and likely to not fall below that until mid-next-week - if the temperatures drop back to normal June/Early-July temps that is.  Stop complaining! :p

I'm thinking that if I tell myself it's not that hot and just run around my apartment naked for the next two days it won't actually be that bad. Big Grin
This with your previous "box fan" comment has been my life.  I get to enjoy CD's beautiful AC, but not every day. I am lucky that I have a lower level apartment that is shaded with trees, and when it cools down we have an amazing amount of windows for that "cross breeze" action. Friday was terrible.. Saturday a little better. Every year I have said I will get another box fan, this year it WILL happen. Like, this Friday. Smile

Is this pleeb for real? Don't try me honey.

Also sunburn soothed a little with the help of some cream. I can't believe this has happened to me while I was wearing suncream, I rarely burn even without suncream.

Maybe on your continent Tongue

Which is why I'm not entirely surprised that Poca can cool a residence with Eastern and Western exposures.

Europe is definitely a different animal.

I TOTALLY bought a second box fan.  Big Grin

I'm lucky to live on the first floor, too (in some ways, in other ways it completely sucks like when the six and three year olds that live upstairs decide my Friday afternoon nap time is the best possible moment to stomp in circles around their living or drop bouncy balls on their kitchen floor over... and over... and over... and over...).  I don't have a lot of windows (I have four, if you include my sliding glass door as a window) but they face North and South and the South window and door are shaded.  I'm also on the East side of the building so I completely avoid getting any late afternoon Western exposure that would cook my place.  The only downside is that I'm not very comfortable leaving all my windows 100% open at night which would really help cool my place down...  Undecided

My dad recently gave me a bumble bee whirlygig that I've been using to track prevailing wind directions so I can enhance my cooling strategies.

Just got back from TJ. Who'da thunk the best and cheapest dentistry would be in a hole such as Tijuana? I'm never paying American dentistry prices again.
