This guy "Fred" got so sick and fat that they had to get rid of him. I'm almost 80% certain he was a hypochondriac. I wonder if there's any correlation with believing you're sick with all manner of illnesses and believing in a god.

The former reinforces the latter. Think about it, you are always afraid of having a serious illness, you pray for god to not having an illness, go to the doctor that tells you you don't have anything wrong, hallelujah, prayer answered, god healed you!

True dat. But that's kinda my point. I'm not trying to self hate on atheists, but we are obviously not immune to the asshole-ishness that the internet infects people with. Just saying I've seen my fair share of rabid atheists on the webs and it ain't pretty.

That's was exactly one of my thought processes on it. In "Fred"'s case, I just think that he's willing to believe anything without truly analyzing the facts first. He's adamant about believing in the god of the Bible...well...because he likes it. Nothing more beyond that. He believes he's eternally ill for no apparent reason as well. The doctors couldn't find anything wrong with him, and when they determined that he was indeed sick, they couldn't pinpoint the cause of his deteriorating health.

However, since getting out of the Air Force, he's miraculously better. I have some of my own theories on this, but you guys are smart, so I'll let you come to the same conclusions I did without spoiling the ending.

He does have a point, there are a lot of Internet atheists who want to "prove they're right" but the idea is they're not supposed to know. You have to practice what you preach. Religious people won't appreciate some kind of a punk telling them what they shouldn't believe in, it's their job to do that to you as they're the ones trying to sell the product.

I think I know what you're trying to say here, but you have to realize that critical thinkers get bombarded with bullshit all the time and must argue the points with ferocity for fear of that idea infesting the minds of other readers. A few examples that I can think of off the top of my head:

-Someone trying to sell the Bible and the stories within as historical fact
-Anyone that fights against the truth of evolution
-Anyone arguing against the age of the earth (i.e. a Creatard that says dinosaurs lived at the same time men did).

And this is only the tip of the iceberg. To say that we're not supposed to know something is selling our intellect short. Do we know about God or Spirits? Probably not, but that's probably because we can't know the unknowable; everything else that can be tested and verified is fair game.

If they're proposing or doing something socially harmful backed by their religion you can certainly argue with/oppose them on that point, but that's probably where it's best to draw the limit. You wouldn't argue with a Jain about their metaphysical beliefs or choice of lifestyle if they're causing no harm, in that religion they literally can't not even insects. It's something cultural and they're enjoying it. You don't have to be like the Grinch who tried to steal Christmas.

Would you say religion plays a huge part in how someone votes? We need to remember that even if we think their religion isn't harming anyone, at the end of the day, we still have to vote against them. If we didn't talk about the issues, then nothing would ever get done to make this world better.
