No, they follow the faith equation:
Can't be explained yet = miracle
Think if you took penicillan (sp) back 500 years, you'd be sainted. People are so swept away by things they can't understand, especially fluke chance. Fluke coincidence kinda spooks me, but I have to remember that the universe was made by random chance, including me. "Goddidit" is just too close-minded a way to explain chance.

It's this very watered-down definition of "miracle" which further confirms my belief that the Catholic religion is full of shit.
Didn't they make Mother Theresa a saint, too? Or they were going to? What miracle did she perform, other than giving sick people a place to lay down and die? not once did she ever heal or cure anyone.

But she did send them to God, which, to the Catholic Church, is more than enough.

It seems she is one miracle short of sainthood, and, given the fact that her correspondence was published indicating that she didn't believe in god I somehow doubt they will ever find the strength to go looking for that second "miracle."
As Hitchens noted:
Quote:"So, which is the more striking: that the faithful should bravely confront the fact that one of their heroines all but lost her own faith, or that the Church should have gone on deploying, as an icon of favorable publicity, a confused old lady who it knew had for all practical purposes ceased to believe?"
The church is shameless, Chris. You should know that.

Quote:“In my soul I feel just that terrible pain of loss,” she wrote in 1959, “of God not wanting me — of God not being God — of God not existing.” According to the book, this inner turmoil, known by only a handful of her closest colleagues, lasted until her death in 1997.
Gleeful detractors may point to this as yet another example of the hypocrisy of organized religion. The woman widely known in her lifetime as a “living saint” apparently didn’t even believe in God.

Anyone else ever noticed how banal most miracles are - even most of the ones done by Big J himself rather leave you with a - so what?
Still - I feel the same about magicians on the TV.

Very interesting.
Quote:St. John of the Cross, the Spanish mystic, labeled it the “dark night,” the time when a person feels completely abandoned by God, and which can lead even ardent believers to doubt God’s existence.
Kind of puts a damper on the idea of an omnipresent god, doesn't it? I mean, when even the most devout have doubts about God's existence, then surely it shows how there's no obvious evidence for his existence like so many Christians love to claim, does it?
The sad part is that she carried on her charade for some 40 years.
