I'm surprised someone holding such beliefs would voice them in a classroom setting. What were you teaching? I don't think anyone would be dumb enough to suggest evolution and global warming aren't real in my classes. Although once in an evolution class a guy asked the prof if dolphins are mammals. It was embarrassing for all of us.

Oh, you're not the only one surprised. I teach an Air Force Intelligence Fundamentals course lately, which is ironic considering the complete lack of intelligence from certain parties.

On the note of religious discussion in class, I put an instant stop to it whenever someone tries to bring it up. I had a Mormon in my last class that actually tried to convert his classmates. I told him that if he didn't want a letter of counseling on his file for unprofessional behavior in a professional environment that all overt religious discussion needed to stop. As a side note, I told him that he could always talk to me about his faith if an outlet was all he was looking for. He agreed...and instantly regretted it.
