Hi Everyone!

Hi Everyone!
I'm Honey. I'm a Christian. I hope that's cool with you guys. I just want to say upfront that I'm not here to tell you that you are going to hell or evangelize to you. I'm not here to even argue for the existence of God. I am here for the opposite, actually. I am currently taking a philosophy of religion class at Nyack College in NYC and I am hoping this forum can help me see the skeptical perspective on philosophical claims of God's existence. Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help Smile

RE: Hi Everyone!
Forgive me if I am skeptical that you are as polite as you say you are. A lot of theists come on here and are very rude, though we have some nice ones.

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House

“Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom

Hello and welcome to AF! ^_^

Hopefully you'll like it here enough to stick around after your philosophy class is over Smile
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Be polite until they aren't.

Why did god punish Adam and Eve for choosing wrong, when they didn't know right from wrong?
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.
