Oath Change for the AFA

RE: Oath Change for the AFA
Quote:Why do conservatives think the Pledge of Allegiance is required every morning for school children? Or anyone else for that matter? I've said it once, so I don't have to keep reaffirming that pledge. If I ever want to renege on my allegiance to my country, I'll let everyone know.

I know, right? And who says double agents are affected by any sort of oath? They can be seemingly ultra patriotic, but still have other intentions to screw over the intelligence agencies of another country.

I stopped saying the pledge shortly before highschool - I'd just stand there. During highschool though, I tried to get away with not standing but the homeroom teacher told me it doesn't matter if I do not recite it, I have to stand. This country is weird with allegiances and oaths.

When you think about it, it really does come off as brainwashing or indoctrinating children, like they do in certain communist countries. The major difference is that we have a different "Dear Leader" every 4 or 8 years.

Frankly, I'm willing to bet that most school children probably just recite it from memory without knowing or caring what it really means.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

A reasonable compromise in an often unreasonable country.

I was home schooled so I never had to recite any pledge.

Is this enough or should the oath be secular in nature to begin with?

Discuss.

"No religious test" in the United States Constitution's oath of office. So what is to discuss? It has to remain optional.
