Quote: Simple answers for simple people. You nailed it. The money wing of the party had gotten in the habit of assuming they could buy the votes of the trailer trash by pointing at the blacks and saying "you don't want to be like them." Little did they guess that the time would come that they wouldn't want to be one of the banking scumbags, either! I am loving this little civil war they've got going. The major problem with the Republican party is that their political candidates, like say for president, have to appeal to the far right in order to get nominated, but they then have to try to appeal to moderates and liberals in the general election without pissing off those on the far right, who often have the attitude of "If you're not with us, you're against us," and if you don't agree 110% with them they think you're a RINO and will turn on you. But the problem with trying to appeal to the far right in the first place is that sound bytes now last forever on the internet, and the crazy things you say when you're trying to appeal to the crazy right will come back to haunt you when you're going up against a Democrat in the actual election. Or, if they're genuinely batshit crazy and are one of the people they pander to, they have no clue as to how to appeal to mainstream voters.
It's a problem that the GOP needs to fix if they ever hope to win the presidency again, unless the Democrats have a major fuck up.

Ah...yeah. Let's not forget that it was just a year ago....
http://news.yahoo.com/five-republican-br...itics.html Quote:Keeping the base on board with Christie: Gov. Chris Christie has gone from one of the most popular Republicans – a front-runner in early 2016 presidential polling – to one being openly questioned about his loyalty to the Republican party for embracing President Obama’s support in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Last Sunday, the Drudge Report mocked Christie’s appearance on Saturday Night Live, saying he was clowning around as his constituents suffer in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. He received a lukewarm reception from his GOP colleagues at last week’s Republican Governors’ Association, according to the New York Times, even as he prepares to chair the organization in 2014. It’s a notable departure from the near-unanimous plaudits the straight-talking governor received from the right, pre-Sandy. Or, as they say bluntly in Alabama...."he hugged that nigger!" Gotta love it! RE: GOP Candidate Warns:Yoga Leads to Satan,God Created the Tea Party,...etc

E.W. Jackson is a lunatic, but he's downballot from a guy who's just as crazy and hateful, The Cooch. Thankfully, it seems like the entire GOP ticket in the Virginia election (gov., lt. gov., attorney general) are on their way to a crushing defeat, perhaps along with some further-downballot assholes from the Republican Party. That and two Obama wins make me have something like faith in my former home state.

Remember, it was just this year that Republicans were having a big meeting on how to appeal to minorities and women, because the Great Trouncing of 2012 made them realize that a Republican polling at 0% among black voters is not likely to get elected, plus their harsh stance on immigration alienated Latinos.
But apparently they didn't learn anything about helping their image, since they cut $40 billion from SNAP and then shut down the government in a futile attempt to get the ACA thrown out. So while maybe they learned a thing or two about appealing to minorities, they haven't learned shit about how their war on the poor is affecting their image.
