A class to learn about atheism? No leave not unless it is some kind comparative religions type course. Hell just give that INTERNET class, chances it will be more useful and make them atheists anyway.

Yeah, I find it strange that most churches in my town are interdenominational.

about 23,000 people, around 20 churches downtown. I don't know about uptown, I haven't been through there much, but most people I know are interdenominational

Teaching atheism in school?
I'm a self-taught atheist. And I'd like to think that I'm doing it well.

How would one teach atheism? Its not as if its a discipline and it has no rituals to classify it as a religion. You cannot be indoctrinated as a result. Saying the class teaches atheism must be a ploy deployed in words to make it sound terrible. Atheism I'd the RESULT of skepticism and rationality, both of Those you Could teach. However not atheism itself. That'd just as bad as teaching creationism. You smash an answer to the kids faced without letting them see the problem worked out. I sure hope that's what they mean to teach and not just "there are no gods because there is no proof" logic loops.

The multi-denom schools will be 'teaching atheism', they will be teaching about atheism. The following snip from the article was not included in the OP:
'This article was amended on 27 September 2013 to clarify that pupils in multi-denominational schools will learn about atheism as part of the wider curriculum covering ethics, beliefs and religion. Atheists will not be teaching children that God does not exist, as originally stated, rather, children will be educated about atheism, including the atheist belief that God does not exist.'
