I actually think it's a good idea, a way to get all the + of church with the -
To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day,
To the last syllable of recorded time;
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools

If your a member yes, they give people a sense of belonging and often time they'll people engaged in the community activities such as donation drives, and those often give a purpose to people who need one. Also many churches support outreach projects like rehab programs or soup kitchens.

Yeah, if they want to that's well and all but I would rather spend my Sundays not in a pew. Maybe a little brunch gathering or something but I'm not totally at ease in a crowd of people I don't know.

One of the benefits of being in a religion is the sense of community. Some people like it - in fact I am sure a lot of people go to church/synagogue/temple W.H.Y. simply for that.

This is something that is missing in atheism.

As long as it is optional I see no harm.

Gotta say - not really for me either but YMMV.

Well I don't think one of those "churches" will be set up anywhere near where I live, so I guess I can continue to sleep in on Sunday mornings.
