One of the nicest women I know is a Christian and quite delightful. She is currently dating an atheist. Not this one, unfortunately. She's hanging out with someone who has status and talent.

She doesn't think gay people should be prohibited from being married. She doesn't think Genesis is a science text. She's one of the most reasonable people I know.

You have to know more about a person than that they're a Christian to know what they're about.

For most of the theists on this thread (most, not all), it seems their beliefs are more important than their relationships with those around them.

Ignore those people, OP, and their advice. Nobody's beliefs should trump your want to be happy with another person.

If that person can't accept your lack of belief (or indeed the other way around), then really, they need to take a long hard look at themselves and grow up. Life is too short to let a fantasy fairy tale dominate it.

Not to throw a blanket on the proceedings (so to speak), but here is a more cautionary tale:

My last boyfriend came from a fundie upbringing. He and I got on like a house on fire and it was not a problem between us, but I told him I was concerned how things would be when his family learned of my atheism. He pooh-poohed my concerns and said it would not be a problem. Well, it was a problem.

Up to the point that they learned of it, I was the best thing that had ever happened to him. After, I apparently became a succubus who was after his mortal soul. They badgered him ceaselessly. He was not a person who could withstand such a constant assault, and in the end it was easier for him to jettison me than to stand up to the family (they were all disturbingly close).

So, depending on what you hope to gain from of the relationship, it can be a huge consideration -- and it's not just her opinion that will matter.

Another cautionary tale, my own -

Married my college sweatheart, kids, bought a few houses, a semi-fundy Christian, divorced.

Religion played a large part in the ultimate demise of the marriage.

But, in your case -- hot college chick -- who cares? Ask her out and see who gets to ride who. And where.
