Pope finds new enemy: Capitalism

Quote: The recently elected Pope continued his revitalization of the Church with an outspoken statement against the "new tyranny" of "unfettered capitalism."

"Some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world,"he wrote, in a direct rebuttal of the theory espoused by free-market thinkers that wealth eventually benefits the whole of society.

While capitalism rarely benefits the poor, Pope Frankie has a lot of nerve speaking out against anything which doesn't help the poor, seeing as how he's the head of a religion that's worth billions and runs its own bank.

I'm waiting to see how much further a rift this will cause between Catholics and conservative Protestants, and even between the church and conservative Catholics.

People are pretty good at conveniently forgetting things they don't agree with so they don't have to change their minds. I doubt it will bother anyone beyond a slight frown and a confused look.

Well, Good ole Rush Linbaugh derped his usual derp.

This new pope is growing on me. And if Rush Limbaugh comes out against someone its a good indication that that someone is doing at least something right!

Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken."

I figured Rush would have something to say about it. After all, anyone criticizing the unfettered ability to make obscene amounts of money while people starve is anathema to the right-wing blowhard.

Quote:“I’m not Catholic,” Limbaugh added, “but up until this I admired the man.”

There's one difference between us. I always thought Limbaugh was a flaming shithead.

And I was never sold on this new pope, either.

As they say -- A Pope under any other hat is still a Pope.

HA!

I saw this!

And did you see Sarah Palin's response to Pope Francis. I don't know if it was this in particular but she is so confused right now!

Not a direct quote: "I think the Pope is a little liberal. I mean, I don't trust the media but from what I read from the media it sounds like the Pope is liberal. Not that I trust the media, but the media seems to be saying things that the Pope said that just sound, from the media, Pope, God, Jesus" Head explodes.

Again, that was not a direct quote.
". . . let the atheists themselves choose a god. They will find only one divinity who ever uttered their isolation; only one religion in which God seemed for an instant to be an atheist." -G. K. Chesterton

Capitalism has enabled countless people to get out of poverty - that's the famous "American Dream". We were the first country in the world to achieve such a high standard of living and produce a middle class. Today people still come from all over the world because of the opportunities offered here. Most other world systems don't allow for any upward mobility., i.e., monarchies, dictatorships, communism. As far as the Catholic church goes, it has been the forefront of providing aid to the poor for the last century at least.

Kindly extract your head from your ass and take a good look around. It will help if you also lose the rose-colored glasses.

Capitalism makes the rich get richer and the poor can go fuck themselves.
