Father Arguments

RE: Father Arguments
Another counter-argument against moral abolutism is: If there is a moral system, then there is good and evil. If there is evil, then that moral system is not absolute.

He doesn't believe in hell, or very much human interaction. I think he might be a deist. Anyways, his argument was: "You believe in an absolute moral philosophy. What is the basis for that? What is the basis for an absolute moral code that almost everyone follows? Who came up with that?" I tried countering him but it got confusing. Can someone come up with a better counter?

I posted something about this in a thread. You can check my profile and search in my posts for it. To sum it up. Its opinion based.

it isn't in our nature to think of a God, it is in our nature to seek answers and the concept of God is most influenced in this world.

Secular morality ultimately reduces to "might makes right".

This isn't even an argument. It's just profoundly, stupidly, wonderfully emblematic of just how far downhill the quality of your posts has gone.

The answer for "I don't have an answer." Come on, you're better than this min. Don't be lazy.

As for absolute morality from a secular perspective, there is none. It is the eye of the beholder. Many view it as perfectly just to follow Hammurbai's code....that if someone murders another, they deserve the death penalty, while many others see such punishments as immoral in and of themselves.

Surely that is the theist morality?

Either God complies with a pre-existing moral standard or God sets the standard and enforces it through his power.

If God sets the standard then there is nothing to say that his morality is actually superior to any other excepting his power to enforce it.

Actually, yes come to thing about it. He who is the victor, writes the history.

Take for example the First World War, it was the French and Russians who turned it into the war it became, but since Germany lost, all the blame was turned on them.

RE: Father Arguments
Is something moral because god decides it is moral?

Or is god's ruling final because he knows what is moral?

If the former, then morals are simply reduced to the edicts of one being, which is dictatorship. If the latter, then morality exists independently of god and we can suss it for ourselves.
