Where is this biblical standard of monogamy?

Where is this biblical standard of monogamy?
I hear sometimes that monogamy should be the only form of marriage because of what's in the bible. Except that biblical characters tended to be polygamous. Guys like David and Solomon had many wives, and probably some concubines on the side too. One of the more notable stories in the bible is about David having lots of wives, but he wants Bathsheba, and gets punished for not being happy with all his other wives.

So what's the deal?

Personally I think the male and female bodies seem to be geared for polyamorous relationships. Women last longer in the bed, and can have more orgasms. Of course that doesn't really fit well with the male dominance aspects of our culture, so they went with polygamy instead.

When they mention monogamy in the Bible, they are likely referencing the late Judaism/early Christian view on marriage as seen in the New Testament. It's marriage between a man and a woman that is to last for life.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

I guess that's just one of those things that got changed from the old testament. Seriously, this is some of the stuff that makes me think Jesus is a totally different person from Yahweh. There's no old testament verse about loving your enemies and stuff. It's a confusing book, to say the least.

Keep in mind there is a 400-year gap between the OT and the NT. A lot can change over that period of time.

Yeah, I know it took a while for christianity to come along. I also know the bible is really just a bunch of stories written decades or centuries apart, eventually compiled into one book. Jesus didn't actually write anything. He ministered for a year or so, then spiritually visited a guy a decade or so before he was executed.
