I think, Gimp is the best alternative of photoshop. You have to try it.

I have GIMP, and it works well. To think there was a time I tried to do everything in Paint...
Losing Photoshop and AutoCAD is the only reason I still haven't upgraded my 2004 desktop computer. I've been thinking of seeing whether my student ID from college still "works" and going to the student store and buying the student version which is WAY cheaper (like $100-200). $800 software is such a rip off.

Photoshop CS2 works for me, I had a CS3 that told me not to eat meat when I started it.
There was a similar Dreamweaver thing going, but Macromedia was always easy and you didn't have to be vegan. Raw may be an issue

I know it's an old thread but just for the sake of person asked the question about the free alternative to adobe photoshop I'm gonna leave a reply to let you know there's a website which offers a free photo editor inside which is completely like photoshop. You don't need to download it. Just pick a photo from your pc and start work on it. The site address is [SNIP] This helped me completing many micro projects without having any photo editing software installed on my computer. Moderator Notice
