Here's what I would suggest. Evidence: use bible verses and personal experiences. So say you experienced something and you think it's god interfering, then certain bible verses show that you're right, god does do these things. Or the other way around, you read this in the bible, not quite sure what it meant, then personal experience!!!! Now you've got it! I mean if you claim to have a dream and that it's from god, no one in the church will tell you you're delusional. That's basically how Revelations was written.

Nobody can give you advice Childofreason, because none of us know your circumstances. I'd like to think that they love you enough that they'd want you to be genuine. However parents are also very, very human and its entirely possible that your "coming out" would force them to face truths they are not strong enough to face just now. I've had experience of lying to my parents to spare them pain, and then of them finding out who and what i really was and I wish I'd been better at the former so none of us had to face the latter.

As strange as it may sound, lieing might just be the strongest thing you can do. You take on the burden of their credulity. If you are strong enough to do that, then good on you.

Okay, some real advice from a former atheist. Come clean with the folks. Ask to delay your confirmation while you "sort things out", and ask them to pray for you (that will give them something to do while you go on with your life). And yes I told my parents when I had doubts.

Firstly, and most importantly, completely disregard what the christards say ... they're half-wits who believe in ancient superstitions.
Secondly, Minimalist is right. Throughout your life you're going to have to occasionally (not often, but occasionally) tell a lie in order to appease someone or some group. You think the people who ran the underground railroad for the slaves didn't have to lie once in awhile, or that the people protecting jews in Nazi Germany didn't have to pretend to hate Jews? Please.

For now you have to pretend to serve a fictional character. In time, you will be free and it'll be worth it. Until then, keep coming to see us and you can vent your frustrations in a safe place.
