It's interesting, isn't it, that those of us who use both scales tend to use Celsius when it's cold ("It's minus 6 out there!") and Fahrenheit when it's hot ("It's over 90 degrees in the shade!")

Cold in east Tennessee, going down to 0 or below and a high of 18 tomorrow. Maybe we can get rid of some of the bugs from China this winter, if not then I would want it to stay much warmer.

And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,

Yesterday was a balmy 43 degrees C (109.4F) Today was much cooler at 28 degrees C (82.4F)

Next Saturday should be fun with an expected 45 degrees C (113F)

While you freeze we swelter. meh

The way I was taught about it, it was originally based on two extremes: The zero end was supposed to be the coldest temperature he could record in his hometown of Danzig in one winter, and 100 degrees was supposed to be his body temperature.

Of course, apparently, there was another explanation; he based it on another scale where brine freezes at zero degrees, water freezes and melts at 7.5 degrees, body temperature is 22.5, and water boils at 60 degrees. He planned to multiply them all by four, but, eventually, he decided it would look better if the freezing point of water was 32 degrees, and body temperature was 96 degrees, so the distance could be 64 degrees. Eventually, it was modified a little so that water could melt at exactly 32 degrees and boil at 212 degrees, and, finally, we end up with a temperature of 98.6.

Now, back in Skokie, the temperature is -9.6 Fahrenheit.
