Coping with the "Holiday" season

RE: Coping with the "Holiday" season
Wow, I've been away from the 'puter for a while and am surpirsed by the amount of comments to a post that I thought would fade away after a couple of days. I appreciate all you input. I may not be posting much more in the next few weeks, like I've really done much at all, due to the advancment of Rheumatoid Arthritis in my hands; I've had Osteo Arthritis in my back and hips for a few years but the RA in my hands is bothersome. Have a good "holiday season" for however/whatever you celebrate. TJ.

Hey thom513(Wow have there really been 512 other thoms? j/k),

Ok, so they are kind of a pain in the ass to get used to but if typing is too painful, a speech recognition program might do the trick. I used a program at work to try to cut down throughput and had some success. The only reason we didn't go with it was becasue it was too difficult for most people due to their thick accents and general frustration with technology.

Might be a good gift idea for Christmas.

Oh, and I freakin' love Christmas! The only thing I used to hate about our family get togethers was my father's message laden puppet shows! Boo indoctrination! YAY huge feast with gift exchanges!

I love christmas!! This year will be a little bit different. My sister has a new born baby girl, and my brother has a new born baby boy. And my family has agreed that the adults will get no presents, and no over spending!! The new borns and my two nieces will get presents. But that wont stop me from geting my sisters and their husbands a nice christmas card. Smile

I celebrated a Christian Christmas once - went out and helped ppl and stuff. It was miserable but rewarding. Yay for Cashmus. Easter is way better IMO.

I like Christmas, but Easter is the one major holiday for me that gets treated as "just another day." In fact the only thing I like about Easter is the chocolate coconut egg my mother buys for my easter basket every year. Those things are fucking yummy, and I like making it a once a year thing, otherwise it loses it's charm. (Also, super fattening, wtf!)

Actually, my local convention, Anime Boston tends to be on Easter weekend, which gets some attendees whining because they can't attend the con due to the Holiday. Bah! I like it because then I won't be home that weekend and my mother can enjoy her holiday without my cranky atheism.

I suppose in Catholicism you have all the mass's n stuff. Never understood those. Christmas for me is nothing more than the secular holiday of over indugence followed by the bleakness of January and February. Easter is a 3 day party where you're sad for a couple of days then party. Much nicer and actually meaningful.

Yeah, there's a Christmas mass my mother goes to on Christmas Eve at Midnight (So technically Christmas Day.) I used to go, and actually I liked those masses. We sang Joy to the World, which is one of my favorite religious x-mas songs, and other fun songs, plus the church would look really nice with Christmas lights and everything.

Easter for me is palm branches and special dresses. There was the Palm Sunday mass where we got the palm leaves. Then Good Friday was always a somber affair. The Catholic Church does not have Mass on Good Friday and that's the only time of the year when the tabernacle that contains consecrated hosts is empty and the candle put out. I think the symbolism there is Jesus is dead so no Body of Christ for you! And then of course Easter Sunday which is the busiest church mass ever. Those non-practicing Catholics come out of the woodwork on Easter and sometimes Christmas. Easter was just never that fun for me, so when I became an atheist I didn't mind not celebrating it. *shrugs*

I prefer the version by Nelson Muntz Smile

Joy to the world, the school burned down
And all the teachers died
The principal is dead
We shot him in the head
The janitor is gone
We flushed him down the john
And heeeeaven, the school burned down.
