Deuteronomy 23:2

Deuteronomy 23:2
"No one born of a forbidden marriage nor any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, not even in the tenth generation."

As if it's not bad enough that we're born into sin because of something we aren't in control of, we are just flat out denied entrance into heaven if we're born out of wedlock. What is with Yahweh and punishing people who have no control over the situation they're in?

This means I can be born through marriage, but because my great grandfather was born out of wedlock I might as well have nothing to do with god at all.

So I never had a shot anyway, yes I was born in wedlock, but my great-great grandparents were a rich French trader who left his wife for his creole maid. And that's the story of how we got the good silver and china!

How many people alive today, do you think, have a genealogy going back thousands of years without a single ancestral union that would qualify as 'forbidden'?

Cue the "this is one of those parts that doesn't apply anymore" crap.

Of course I guess I could have put it in the jewish section. whether it still applies or not doesn't really change the fact that it once did apply.

Um, I'm fairly sure it's talking about some actual building in Israel used for religious ceremonies (the "temple"?), not heaven.

RE: Deuteronomy 23:2
It does say assembly or congregation, but so what? They're not allowed to associate with the rest of the flock, but they still get a shot into heaven? How does that make sense?

Is Jesus the same guy, or does he serve the same guy, that inspired that verse? If someone was an ass a while back, and made no apologies about it, he's still an ass now.
