It's arguably a form of ignorance that. But what facts is it ignorant about? I don't think it's proven ignorance.
But is this ignorance through desperation or desperation through ignorance?
I think it might be ignorance through desperation; this reason I am giving.
Wishful thinking; blind hope.
Fear. Etc.
Actually, I was being facile.
Of course I think you're right.
I also think one's world view changes with age. As the saying goes "anyone who is not a socialist at 20 has no heart.Anyone who is a socialist at 40 has no head"
At 25 I was a "Social Democrat" a member of the Australian Labor Party and fervent unionist. I voted for the party, believing it would improve the nature of my society. It was elected; nothing changed.
Today I belong to no party. I no longer vote FOR any party,I vote AGAINST the party for which I have the most contempt,in the naive hope that another bunch will be less corrupt, self seeking and incompetent.
Australia is a middle class hegemony. Our elections are decided by the roughly 3% of the voters who swing with the best offer. The rest of the population seems to be donkey voters, too lazy, indifferent or cynical to bother changing their vote. Voting here is mandatory,so turn out is close to 100%.
So far,Obama is pretty underwhelming,to argue that " he's better than Dubya" is not exactly an encouraging recommendation.
(Although tempted, I won't write a polemic on false consciousness)
