Reasons to be Repuglican
I can only think of two reasons to be Repuglican:

1) I'm ritch, Biatch!
2) God hates Fags!

So if there is another reason to be Repuglican, will someone please enlighten me?

It's not about reasons. The whole reason people subscribe to party based politics is so they wont have to do any thinking for themselves. They just follow the party line and shout political slogans to convince themselves they're right. That goes for the majority of the left, as well. The democrats just happen to be less wrong than the republicans.

They might just relate more to conservative ideals, and feel the Republican party is the best political representation of those ideals.

It's really too bad that this, of all boards, comes off as closed-minded and intolerant.

Maybe it's because republicanism is supposed to value "rights" and "liberty" and has a strong inclination against corruption.

Obviously whoever wrote the wikipedia article on american republicanism is slightly behind the times Wink

I can only think of two reason why anyone would believe any particular political party will save their country from itself;

(1) Gullibility

(2) Ignorance.

And perhaps just blind hope and wishful thinking? Desperation?

It's arguably a form of ignorance that. But what facts is it ignorant about? I don't think it's proven ignorance.

It just could obviously be considered ignorance because it's cutting off the world stupidly. But you have to be ignorant of some things because you can't focus on everything.

But is this ignorance through desperation or desperation through ignorance?

I think it might be ignorance through desperation; this reason I am giving.
Wishful thinking; blind hope.

Fear. Etc.

Actually, I was being facile.

Of course I think you're right.

I also think one's world view changes with age. As the saying goes "anyone who is not a socialist at 20 has no heart.Anyone who is a socialist at 40 has no head"

At 25 I was a "Social Democrat" a member of the Australian Labor Party and fervent unionist. I voted for the party, believing it would improve the nature of my society. It was elected; nothing changed.

Today I belong to no party. I no longer vote FOR any party,I vote AGAINST the party for which I have the most contempt,in the naive hope that another bunch will be less corrupt, self seeking and incompetent.

Australia is a middle class hegemony. Our elections are decided by the roughly 3% of the voters who swing with the best offer. The rest of the population seems to be donkey voters, too lazy, indifferent or cynical to bother changing their vote. Voting here is mandatory,so turn out is close to 100%.

So far,Obama is pretty underwhelming,to argue that " he's better than Dubya" is not exactly an encouraging recommendation.Wink Shades

I agree. Voting along party lines is just an excuse to not think for yourself. I'd go so far as to say Obama's better than most politicians, although that's not saying a whole lot more.
