I said that having more choices is *not always* better. That includes this case.
What is not better about it? Instead of having to try to fit themselves into a binary gender system when there are actually MANY genders, people on Facebook can identify themselves more accurately. That seems better to me.

The atrocities committed by man against his kin know no bounds.

Tell me... is announcing one is Shia in a Pakistan Sunni mosque... healthy? Is announcing to homophobic peers and family that one is gay... healthy?

Information is not without harm.

If the gay community had taken that attitude in the 70s, than the gay rights movement never could have taken off. One of the most successful attempts at changing our culture was simply having everyone who was queer come out to the world. People suddenly knew that they personally knew at least one person who was gay, and that changed everything. Everyone was homophobic back then, but it was damned important that gay people come out anyway. If people don't do the same about their gender identity, the binary gender system of our culture will never change. Those of us who are aware of how fallacious and harmful the system is have a responsibility to take action to change that. You could do the same even if you are not transgender or genderqueer by listing yourself as cisgender or cis female.

They could have really just had a blank box for the person to fill in themselves to make it simple.

But it's a pretty interesting list, I've just been looking at the "two spirit" gender and I didn't even know that existed before.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Technically, anyone who is gay, bisexual, transgender, or genderqueer could be described as "two-spirited". It's cool that this is associated with more mystical power in Native American cultures, but that also just emphasizes our "otherness". Shamans, witch doctors, etc. are often isolated from the rest of a tribe.

Would a priest be male or neutral?
I feel that sometimes people just over complicate things.

Pay attention to the key words: "not always good"

And how many gay people have been beaten to a pulp, raped, and/or died because of this movement? Think about it: has the gay rights movement benefited *every single gay person* who has announced to the world that they are gay? Sleepy

Sure, the coming out of a whole bunch of gay people probably contributed strongly to the relative acceptance of gay people in our culture. Where have I yet said that it did not? No no... I welcome you: search for it. Search hard Heart

However... not everyone was homophobic. There are almost always outliers, whether they claim to follow other's beliefs or not. Observe: Mormonism in Salt Lake City.

Firstly, there are not as many who do not conform to the binary gendering system of our society as there are men who like other men in a sexual manner.

Secondly... transgendered people (a misnomer in and of itself) do not necessarily not conform to the gender binary... infact, most of them are women or men, and the reason of their existence is that they are not in the culturally-considered-to-be-correct body Smile

Thirdly: of all the things that 'we could recognize to be wrong and change as a society'... this one is... kinda lame. Screw your head on. Smile
