Cosmos with Neil De Grasse Tyson Premieres Tonight

I expected you guys to take Minimalist's view. He's not satisfied with undertones. He wants Tyson to come right out and say it.

I pointed it out because I saw the undertones and recognize there is something else on the agenda. The poster who claimed the show was about making people excited by science is wrong because it is obvious there is a second motive.

Listen to me. If you go thru life and don't recognize when you are being fed an agenda....you're doing it wrong. This is true even if you agree with what you are being fed. Its okay to acknowledge there are anti-religious undertones in the series. Its not okay to not see those undertones or pretend they don't exist.

Quote:If CS Lewis can use his book to push an agenda, why can't Tyson?

Because creatard asswipes are screaming for equal time on a science show to spout their pious bullshit. I don't give a flying fuck about your god.

Fucking morons like Ken Ham and Ray Comfort are acting like someone is shoving a cactus dildo up their assholes. I wish they were.

Science doesn't have an agenda; it just IS, and it's exciting. If you want to discuss being fed an agenda your entire life, then try growing up in a Mormon family like I did.

You're trying to get us to chase phantoms that don't exist, and if you expect us to take your poorly-formulated bait then you obviously don't know many atheists.

If there was no religion, then there would be no need to call oneself an atheist. There's just reality and fiction.

You are conflating a television show with science. They are not the same thing.

No, but the TV show promotes science. Religion has no place on a show like that, so there is no space in its program to be anti-religious.

If anything, it's anti-ignorance.

bolded by me

If religion has no place in this show which "promotes science"....why does Tyson keep bringing it up?

Perhaps you can point out where I have done that.

I think you just made it up. I have never talked about my religion.

There is a difference between anti-religious and stating things that make the church look bad, or professing that the scientific method produces better results than any other method. Your confirmation bias will allow you to see church-slamming whenever anyone says anything that does not reflect positively on your pre-conceived notion.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Heywood, your profile says "theist". How exactly have you not talked about your religion when you've given so much away in that one word? We may not know your credo, but we know you worship some form of deity. You could be a follower of Odin; you would still be conflating religion with reality.

The only time Tyson brings up religion is as an attempt for the religious viewers to use what's taught on the show to enhance and complement their beliefs.
