I find 29 to be slightly a depressing milestone.

Mid-life crises DO exist

Average lifespan has increased for the most part simply because of decreased infant mortality. I'll agree with this. People were capable of living longer lives, but other factors caused them to die early.

If they don't exist how am I going to explain the Harley I bought after taking an aussy walkabout?

A shockingly large number of children died before their 5th birthday. So if you took a study from two brothers, one that died at age 1 and the other that died at age 89, you'd have an average lifespan of 45 years. Certainly our midlife mortality has dropped because of better medical care, but old people have always been around.

Lifespan is conditional on many factors: Lifestyle, culture, living conditions, the individuals constitution, etc. While Ramses lived for a very long time, many of the labourers in the fields and building the monuments rarely lived beyond 40-50. Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni: "You did WHAT? With WHO? WHERE???"
I'm sure rulers have a greater chance to live longer, as long as they aren't licking lead or something.

We're really happy when we're young, and happy again when we're old. That low point in the middle? We call it a mid-life crisis. Buckle in man, I haven't gone through one but I saw my dad go through it and it was....interesting. This was about 10 or so years ago but he bought a brand new PS2 (when they just came out), a flat screen, and a motorcycle in the course of a month. Needless to say my mum wasn't thrilled. |
