How many of those freed Israeli slaves do you think had true faith in Moses and their god? How many people with only a speck of faith do you think partook of the wine that Jesus turned from water? How many people do you think would have noticed Lazarus suddenly up and waltzing about again after being three-days stone cold dead? Are you suggesting that all those who sought to see the risen Lazarus were a bunch of miracle-seeking adulterous boobs?

This. This right here is why you cannot rely on scripture; its words will inevitably fail you as it's myriad authors could not fully anticipate the complexity of the human condition.

Simply put, the more our knowledge has increased, and we've become more capable of testing such claims, so the scope and magnitude of "miracles" has diminished.

3000 years ago, supposedly, god could destroy whole cities, create miracles that thousands can see, and his angels were appearing to lots of people.

Now he can appear on grilled cheese sandwiches . . .

Therefore, there would be an effect by the word of God - (thru people- that is usually how God works) if the lies of tradition weren't in them.

Since faith comes by hearing, if you are hearing falsehoods- those falsehoods have the ability to block faith.
It is apparent in the Bible, that God has chosen the manner of acting on belief prior to seeing the result. We have plenty of input all around us to interfere with that process.

Which would all be fine and dandy, if we weren't talking about miracles, and not the bible.

Actually, it also wouldn't be all fine and dandy, because what you're saying is that your god is utterly powerless to actually appear, to the point that simply not believing in him leaves our credibility perfectly okay.

You talk about this guy like he's some brute fact of the universe, but most things that are that interwoven with reality are so obvious that to deny them makes you look insane, but suddenly we've got god, who's so obvious to you all, and yet I can deny him without suffering any ill effects to people's perceptions of me?
