I personally became an atheist by studing the Bible, using Harper's Bible Commentary. Each book of the Bible is commented on by an expert on that book. Isaiah for example, is commented on by a rabbi. It eliminates all the NT prophecy and explains it from a logical Jewish persceptive. The typical belief is circular logic. The NT is true because it is prophesied by the OT. The OT is true because its prophecies are fulfilled by the NT. Once you break that circular chain, it's godless-ville baby.

i think part of the reason im not christian is because we did alot of christian related stuff in primary school, my whole life ive thought of christianity as a load of bull crap

May I ask why you're a Wiccan? I dabbled with Wicca whilst in my teens, but mainly for a laugh.
A friends kid loved the OT. Plenty useful literal references I'm told. He gave up at the start of the NT... no blood and guts. You need a brain to work out the relevance of the OT when the NT is factored in of course.
Don't worry about Tony Abbott. I believe his election to opposition leader will be good for the present government. The problem maybe that Kevin Rudd is also deeply religious, but luckly is more moderate in his approach. I think Australia needs a massive swing in another direction.
