I don't think the North Korea analogy was meant to be humorous though. It should be taken seriously because the god character behaves in the same way.

Hitchens used the analogy to inject humour: after all, the dictatorship in North Korea is an international joke! But yes, many a truth spoken in jest: it should be taken seriously.
