This had been a tactic of the political left since the publication in 1971 of Mr. Alinsky's book "Rules for Radicals". In this case, Rule 12 seems to apply, tho others could be used also.

What amazes me is that the right wing of the American political scene has learned nothing over the last 45 - 55 years about how the other side fights. If ever there was an institution/group/community that a) can't get out of its own way and b) has the unique, repeating habit of snatching defeat out of the very jaws of victory....it is the American right.

If the vaunted American military were as "successful" as the American right.....we'd all be speaking either German or Japanese.

Nope. It doesn't surprise me. Alinsky drafted the blue print for the radical left.
I like Alinsky's rule #4: Make the other side live up to their own book of rules. The radical left can't do that.

I am certainly left of you as most people must be, but I could hardly be classified as part of 'the left'. Although my voter registration doesn't affiliate me with any party, I consider myself libertarian and will lean any number of way depending on the topic. For instance, I embrace capitalism; however, have no problem with regulating industries (think Canadian banking system) and think that deregulation of utilities is stupid. I embrace a meritocracy and the inherent inequality that results from competition, but only on a level playing field and after everyone's basic needs are satisfied.

My problem with this entire thread is the underlying idea that there is any significant difference between Republicans and Democrats in the manner by which they retain power and continue to do nothing to improve our collective circumstance.

Personally I find it funny that you Americans even consider Democrats left wing. Compared to other countries the Republicans and Democrats and both right swingers just the dems try to appeal to a more moderate crowd. Left wing is the Canadian ndp or European green party.

I've mentioned many times on this forum that my true political alignment would be with moderate Republicans of the sort that could have been found in the '60s, but they have been hunted nearly to extinction within their own party. I would no more vote for a typical contemporary Republican than I would for a candidate from the Constitution Party. Fuck Nixon and his Southern Strategy and double-fuck Reagan for bringing it to fruition. As far as I'm concerned, the GOP seriously went off the rails when it courted the fundie vote. It's been all downhill ever since.

Just to point out, reagan's own son noticed that Reagan was suffering from memory loss and some level of dementia in 1984. In other words there were some strong indication that there was a problem

The difference here, is that there was a reason to be concerned with Reagan's health. There wasn't and isn't one for Clinton's health.

As to John, again no concerns about his health. the concerns was that anyone that was stupid enough to select Sarah Palin as a running mate was a threat to this country.
