I don't think graphics are the thing that holds back games. I think people just see good graphics on a short/bad game put 2+2 and get 5. I just think publishers don't like holding onto a game long enough to add more content. They just see something that looks like it will sell and shove it out the door before its reached its potential. Plus gamers are an easy sell, we whine a little when a painfully average game hits the shelf but then the next one comes out and most of us buy that too. That and gamers have notoriously short attention spans, if a game takes too long to develop most people have forgotten it and spent their cash for some cheap thrill elsewhere.
Most Indie games are overrated. Some are great and original, most fucking suck. You may as well just dust off one of your old consoles and play some of your ancient games. For the most part they are clones of games people played once as a kid. It would be nice if they bothered to improve the UI's but apparently they painful confusion of trying to figure out how the fuck you do anything is part of the fun too! Two, it depends on how long you're going to play the game. They often end up being much better value than movies.

Sure, I get that watching it on TV can be boring. Especially if you don't appreciate the sport. I could say the same for any kind of game though. Snooker, soccer, basketball, rugby, darts... Any of these sports/games can be boring to watch if you don't play or appreciate the skill involved in them. Cricket on the other hand? THAT is the definition of a boring thing to watch.
