The "soul" stuff
#41
RE: The "soul" stuff
Oh my the search for a soul. I used to believe in souls and was soundly mocked for holding that belief on this forum, and rightly so. Souls are a laughable thing.

Anyway, I did some research to arrive at my current belief. I found Duncan MacDougall and his soul experiments:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duncan_MacDougall_(doctor)

http://www.snopes.com/religion/soulweight.asp

Ultimately even if the body rapidly loses 21 grams(more or less) of weight upon death it doesn't mean there necessarily is a soul.

Anyway, my favorite video regarding soul is this catchy ditty:

Let's now say that we have technology that is so advanced that 2 days after a person dies we are able to put every single cell or neuron or tiny bit of his body together in tip top condition. Dendrites, synapsis, EVERYTHING.
And then we "zap" this body.
Will the person live again?
Of course no one knows the answer to this question (because no such experiments where ever made), but what are your opinions?

No they are not electro-chemical meat machines.
They are animals. Living animals that feel pain and despair.
Maybe they cannot write poems but they have a right to live. They are not objects. They are living beings.

Correct, meat machines like humans and animals can feel pain.

No. It means she didn't die. You tell me. Does a chicken have a soul?
Chicken souls are named "salmonella" because they are demons.

Because I say they have a soul doesn't mean that I'm putting them on the same level as man.

What? I thought god was not material .. that He was before space, time and everything else. How then is it that we are in the image of god? What image - of something that was before there was any space or stuff? Or is that only a reference to our 'elevated' moral position? These mixed allegories are impossible to keep track of.

It's in reference to our spiritual side, the soul, which can live for eternity.

We understand you believe this, that's your prerogative, but you're not expecting your unfounded assertion to be taken seriously are you?

You just made a statement of what you believe and you asked the question of how we were created in God's image since he doesn't have a physical body. I answered your question. Even though I am serious, I'm not expecting everyone in this forum to take it seriously, just as I don't take everything you say seriously. We're all free to believe what we want to believe. I just want you to believe in Christ because I want you to have salvation.

I thought we gained that hereditary trait* when Eve ate fruit from the forbidden tree. Being made "in the likeness of God" has nothing to do with it.

* Hereditary, in that people didn't have this trait, then Eve ate some fruit, then she gained this trait, and we've all had it sense. God damn that story is so stupid.

If your concern is genuine then your time would be better served petitioning your god to throw down some evidence rather than mindlessly repeating the same shit that's been belched forth for 2000 years. There is absolutely no reason to believe anything in the Bible regarding Christ's return or the existence of an afterlife.
