Why do you have the 'faith' in this god in particular? Was it your parents that said this is the right one? There are hundreds of other gods. Why this one?

Cos the bible says so.

RE: A Serious Question For Theists
I was raised to believe that god's existence was a given, that it was so obvious that it didn't merit any more consideration. With that as a given, the rationalizations and excuses and flimsy thought experiments required to explain why I believed god was real did not seem far-fetched at all. Having finally applied the necessary skepticism to the claim that god was real, the rest fell apart pretty quickly and the mental gymnastics seem bizarre to me now. But what I see from many theists here is exactly the things I used to say in an attempt to make god real in my mind.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

What evidence or arguments do you have for a god?
Problem is, that's not a nonsensical question, its after years of talking to theists, from the pleasantly decent ones to the ego-pigs alike on the spectrum - I've come to understand its just a very unrealistic one.

They cannot answer it properly without moving goalposts and changing the defines of "evidence" and "argument" until its all utterly trivial and meaningless.

You gain nothing from this. Both parties get nothing but confirmation bias the other is a tool or couldn't change their position, or challenge their faith, and so on, and so on. Therefore, its a fruitless waste of time asking them. We have better things to do.

These guys haven't yet defined "god" as anything but a mental construct in their heads that makes them feel happy and/or significant. You expect way too much of them.

As far as I've seen, we've been able to refute nearly all the arguments and rationalize all of the evidence you have. Do you have any legitimate support for the 'god' you claim?

The reason I'm asking for this proof is that the burden of proof always lies on the person making the claim.

It's obvious that theists have made the claim that there is a 'god' or some higher power. There are hundreds of religions. Each one is a claim to be the true belief. Religion is claiming a deity.

Yet despite this, theists fight tooth and nail to shift the burden of proof to atheists. We are just skeptics. Until any religion provides evidence for a claim, we must assume that god does not exist.

So, really. Don't give me 'bible verses' or already refuted arguments and call it evidence. Give me some real evidence that your god exists. If you can't find any, that's because it really doesn't.

Hmmmm....I've read your message above and it caused me some distress.

So I prayed about it all last night, and with god whispering in my "inner ear"...I've got a rock solid response.
God exists because when I pray to him, he answers me.

So there!! Proof positive.

You are never (I repeat- never) going to get the "Proofs" you are demanding.
The whole thing is set up opposite of your thinking.
On purpose.

Precisely. A con isn't a good con if the mark can figure it out.

The Bible is our only evidence. It was inspired by the Creator of the universe. I need no other evidence.

The burden of proof only lies on me if I am bringing the message to you. You are the one demanding the answers.

Assume all you want. God will not accept your excuses.

If you've already made up your mind, than stop asking pointless questions.
