DENVER (AP) — A federal appeals court ruled Wednesday that states must allow gay couples to marry, finding the Constitution protects same-sex relationships and putting a remarkable legal winning streak across the country one step closer to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The three-judge panel in Denver ruled 2-1 that states cannot deprive people of the fundamental right to marry simply because they want to be wedded to someone of the same sex.

The judges added they don't want to brand as intolerant those who oppose gay marriage, but said there is no reasonable objection to the practice.

"It is wholly illogical to believe that state recognition of love and commitment of same-sex couples will alter the most intimate and personal decisions of opposite-sex couples," they wrote, addressing arguments that the ruling could undermine traditional marriage.

Sometime in the near future the mormons may be getting a telegram from planet Kolob telling their grand high exalted mystic ruler that 'god' has changed his mind and gay marriage is okay, after all.

The case was about a black Boy Scout elected Senior Patrol Leader of his Troop, but the sponsoring Mormon Stake, ( that's the local church in Mormonese ) , refused to let him take office because he was not a Mormon Priest and he wasn't allowed to be a Mormon Priest because he was black.

So there was a lawsuit and when it was over the Supreme Court agreed that the IRS could revoke the Tax Exempt Status of the entire LDS church headquarters and all local branches nationwide.

I was a 28 Pastor by then, I remember the case like it was yesterday, partly because I was also Senior Patrol Leader of my Troop way back when.

What really happened after the Court issued its ruling is this: In the next couple of days the Mormon President met with his tax advisers who told him how much money the church would lose as the result of that ruling and he decided he loved money more than he hated blacks.

So the next day he announced to the world that his god had told him in a dream that it was now OK for Blacks to become Priests in the Mormon Church. And the IRS decided not to revoke the tax exempt status of the LDS.
