My first week in the medical field~

My first week in the medical field~
So I've been working in the medical field for exactly a week now, I am tired, so many patients I had over 54 patients in one day.

All of these people saying the same thing, it got me thinking about all the pain my father was in before he died and how no one took him seriously.

My heart is heavy as I realize I never was as understanding of my father and how truly in pain he was until this week.

I love what I do, the past is not owned by me or any man. I can only move forward and help those I can help.

What is your biggest regret?

What would you change or do differently?

RE: My first week in the medical field~
My mother suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for as long as I can remember and like with your father, we kids didn't think much about it. I eventually joined the military and left home and as she got older and her condition got worse my younger brother and sisters shared the responsibilities of taking of her. I didn't think of her much and was involved with my own kids and wrote or called maybe every two months or so. A few weeks so before she was to go in for an operation to free the movement joints in her shoulders and neck, I called her and she wanted me to go and visit her. I told her I couldn't get leave and didn't go. During the operation she suffered a stroke and died in a few hours. I always regretted not only the fact that I didn't visit her, but the way I treated all my life. My consolation is that I'll see her in heaven and we'll get it worked out.

Being former military myself I can say that even had you asked getting leave on short notice is never an easy task, many guys in my unit were denied leave even when their wives gave birth.

Firstly congratulations on entering the medical field, at least where I live finishing med school is considered a major accomplishment. My biggest regret is no particular one, even though I must say I regret not saying anything special the last time I spoke with my father before he passed away. If I could go back in time, I'd say something differently
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you
