CIV 4 seems to have some differences from CIV 5, but it is overall enjoyable, and I can play it with almost maximum settings which is good - I think now I'll go back to play some AOEIII

The layout hasn't changed much over the years. Difficulty should still be under single player/ setup. Be wary of pre Civ 5 titles as they allow "stacks of doom," the ability to place an unlimited amount of military units in 1 tile.
