Hey Lez, nearly all of us can relate to having relatives and friends who are religious.
Like my parents who were set in their old ways, You're not going to change their views after a lifetime of believing... Even if you could, why would you want to.
Just keep on loving them, smiling a lot and keeping them happy.
I've lost my parents...you only get one set, cherish them while they're alive.
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.

I've had moments of searing dislike.
I've recently grown rudimentary legs and am now making the move from water to land.

Don't I have the right to feel the same why about their religious posts?
I'll be honest, the only religion I know anything about is Christianity, and I detest it. The whole concept, along with every other religion, is completely ridiculous. Even if God is real, he's a fucking asshole.
you can hate it if you want, but why turn down eternal life in heaven for one in hell? a simple act of faith is all he asks, nothing to do with religion.

The religion that annoys me most is Islam, followed by Christianity. I've had my problems with Judaism but they don't reach the magnitude of the former two. But generally speaking, I'm against all religions equally, there is no discrimination here and it would be unfair.
By the way, ![Welcome Welcome](https://atheistforums.org/images/smilies/welcome.gif)
An intro thread would be good.

Agree, if the Abrahamic god existed I would have to go against his will, even if that got me into hell. By the way, learn more about other religions if you only know about Christianity, you'll start hating them all if you already hate Christianity. I never made an intro thread. And look at me.

Going against the norm is cool. But making an intro thread simplifies stuff and tells everybody there's a new member. It's just a formality and an act of politeness, no pun intended. When I'm new at something I always introduce myself

I find that xtians are particularly noisome but that is only because there are so many of them around. Were I in a muslim country I'm sure those shitbags would quickly work their way to the top of the list.

Option 3:
Or one can choose to live a real life in a real world without needing to pray or hope for a god who may or may not exist.
Contrary to popular belief, god didn't invent morals, so why does anybody need him to live a full, happy and content life with their family.

Christianity is a vile, repugnant, evil religion, filled with hateful messages and a disgusting philosophy.
Other than that, it's pretty kewl.

A. That's Pascal's Wager, and as such, ridiculous.
B. Why would anyone want to go to heaven to stroke some ego/megalomaniac's... well, you get the picture... for eternity? Define "heaven" please.
C. Who is "he"? God? Which god? Whose god? Define "he" please.
D What is a "simple act of faith"?
Actually, don't answer those here. This is the Intro subforum, and there are rules against debating here. It'd be cool if you started a thread addressing the above.

I find religion not much different from any other grouping of myths or legends about a god or gods. It has its interesting points and can tell us something about the ancient people who wrote it, but it shouldn't have been treated as anything more than that. I don't know if I can hate religion; I live in NYC and it simply doesn't have enough of an impact on my day-to-day life to be something I care about most of the time, much less detest.
I am saddened by what it can do to people, and perhaps on occasion I might hate what it does to them. I was a Jehovah's Witness, and their policy of shunning former members has caused great pain and suffering to otherwise good and kind people. The fact that they follow this order out of a sincere belief that it is for the good of everyone involved is simply horrifying. Perhaps that is what I hate-- that religion has the capability to make good people do really awful things to one another, convinced that they've taken the best possible option.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
