Ca va, mon ami.
To me spelling colour without the "u" is a spelling mistake. I don't see why the orthography of a language should change just because you have a different accent or live in a different country. We speak and write English. It is the English peoples language.

That didn't seem unpleasant to me. What I find annoying is that once posted, one can't correct spelling oneself. I often don't realize I've made a mistake until after I post. I suppose I could be more careful but then I would have to care more about the final package than I do.

Maybe but English only got to be the way it is by being mangled and evolving freely for many years. You can't point to anyone one step in its evolution and say "here we have reached the zenith".

I don't have a problem with English versus US spelling, just blatant spelling mistakes.
I could have written that as 'I haven't got....', and both are OK.

Then perhaps we should leave the job of pointing out this zenith to the original custodians of the language, the English. Or the original mixers if you prefer that description.

I give my girlfriend ( a London native) grief for her spelling, and language, all the time. Of course, having spent much of my youth overseas under the tutelage of European teachers, I had to unlearn a lot of stuff upon returning to America -- the extraneous "u", "s" instead of "z" ("criticise" vs "criticize"), and so on.
I still cross my "7"s, though.

You do understand that the staff here are volunteers, yes?
You don't have to be unpleasant about it, since I asked politely. I already pointed out that they're busy people.
I apologize if you thought that was unpleasant - it wasn't intended to be.
I doubt many ordinary members here realize how much administrative overhead there is involved to make a simple edit to a post. Suffice it to say, there's a lot more to it than clicking "edit post", making a correction, and clicking "save".

If it's any consolation we do warn members for consistently shite etiquette, like posting titles with consistently crap spelling.
Editing every title would probably be a bit of a ballache though.

What about a way for members to edit their own titles?

You can, as long as you do it within the (2 hour?) window that we allow for editing posts in general. If you edit the OP of a thread, it will also let you change the thread title.
