I think that you mean the damaged or inferior brain. A healthy, educated brain does not do this, but I'm glad you admitted that it's all in someone's brain and not real..

So much face-palming in this. For one, who are you to paint with a brush, everyone that has a certain kind of experience, or adheres to a certain philosophy, as brain "damaged" or mentally "inferior"? And that events take place in a person's brain, well, Jesus... newsflash: so do ALL OF YOUR EXPERIENCES! Confusedhock:

That was a jest, a jab at ChadW, not an actual claim that he and his like are actually brain damaged.. Face palm back at you ..

Anesthesia is a far cry from death. Every anesthesiologist knows that. You also lose consciousness during non-rem sleep.

The soul, like one of the kids posted, is not what you have, but something you are.
It is the immaterial part of you. Just like thoughts, values, hopes and desires, and abstract ideas like mathematics are immaterial.

The brain continues to operate during anesthesia.

There are accounts of near death experiences though, in those cases the heart ❤   stops beating and there is actually reports of increased consciousness in spite of clinical brain death. It seems extremely counter intuitive and I don't blame you if you don't agree, but its up for scientific scrutiny.

There is an interesting publication in the Lancet medical journal by a cardiologist Pim VanLommel if you want to google it.

But some of the chucklefucks out there are more akin to an organic Difference Engine...

Michael, the OP is not even close to being Aristotelian. It makes the same artificial distinction between body and mind as Descartes. From a neo-Scholastis perspective the OP is one big straw man.

He also asserts that the material and immaterial cannot interact. Why not? Again the OP begs the question by defining material and immaterial in such a way that they cannot affect one another and then comes to the unsurprising conclusion that they cannot interact.
