Rediscovering Christianity
August 29, 2014 at 4:46 pm
Lately I have been reading into Christianity and what not and have realized it is very beautiful. The mythologies are vivid and the amount of mythical concepts are amazing. It is very similar to the Lord of the Rings trilogy which is not surprising considering Tolkien was a Catholic.
I love mythology and the abilities it has in the realm of fantasy. Am I the only person who has left Christianity and come back to it only to appreciate it to some degree?
Don't get me wrong, it is still bullshit but it is very wonderful bullshit.

The mythologies aren't even self consistent.

I like some hymns even though I don't understand anything. I don't like most modern egyptian hymns cause they're in egyptian arabic (I understand the bullshitty parts and I don't like most egyptian arabic stuff) and what makes them worse is the music (it's like something for little kids not hymns)

Regardless of what the others say. I find the bottom concept of Jesus social compassion and what not, very good. He basically a middle eastern Buddha in a lot of respects, religions are all aspects of the human psychology. They all hold qualities that we had to manifest into people so we can better share and understand ourselves. Religion is like an imaginary friend, great to reflect on however eventually the fantasy has to end and you need to grow up and realize that imaginary friend was you. *My opinion anyway*

Yeah, sorry, but Tolkien is very internally consistent.
Christianity and the Bible make many internal contradictions.
Wonderful?! Seriously?
The hero comes up with the concept of eternal punishment for finite thought crimes.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
