So, when you ask, "why would the writer"- anything...try and remember who those authors were. What they were destined for, btw, was listed directly and as the capstone to the story - which segued nicely into the next vignette in the collection. Full stop.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

He used to have much faster service. It's just not as easy to get an archangel to do any smiting as it used to be. The quality of their work has deteriorated and they won't get off their asses for anything even remotely within the big mans budget. That's why we have toast pictures instead of pillars of fire destroying cities. Can you imagine the logistics behind something like that? The churches are declining and what membership fees they still collect don't seem to make it much passed the cardinals 4th yacht - things are tight all around.

If it could be proven beyond doubt that God exists... and that He is the one spoken of in the Bible... would you repent of your sins and place your faith in Jesus Christ? 1. A rock
2. A water molecule 3. The number 2 A friend was rock bolting a room when one rock that he poked just ahead of himself broke loose and buried the room he was bolting. He thought that that rock was quite good for having dropped just ahead of him instead of on him. A water molecule that becomes the carrier of the Ebola virus, to name one of many, is not what we would call a good water molecule. The number 2 as an answer to what is 5 - 4 is hardly good. Now tell us again just what else is not in that tree of the knowledge of almost everything. If you wish to give it some actual thought this time, try again. Second request.
But what is the first duty of one who has seized it, if mot to insure that all enjoy the same freedom of thought and action? Or do you just center on yourself and screw the rest? Regards DL |
